We all FAIL
Divorce. Bankruptcy. Illness. Job loss. Financial instability.
Betrayal. Weight gain. Rapid weight loss. Lost friendships.
All of these can leave you feeling like you have failed, and maybe you did.
None of them make you a Failure.
Do you fail because you are a FAILURE? Or are you a FAILURE because you failed?
Failure is an event. It does not have to become your identity.
Failure is a commonly shared experience with all of humanity.
If you breathe oxygen, you have failed in some way.
If you have NOT failed, I do not want to know you. You are likely not honest and you will have no empathy.
One of the most powerful attributes of a human being is empathy. If you can empathize with others, you can lead them effectively.
If you have no empathy, you can not lead well. You will be judgemental and ill-equipped to understand your team.
Stop and reflect on who you are. Acknowledge that you have failed.
Understand that common experience.
Failure is universal.
Feel your personal failings. Understand that you are not alone in your shortcomings. Your team needs you to be human.
Acknowledge your failings, but DO NOT wallow in them. Allow them to shape who you are.
Your a human. Allow your team to see that you understand them, you see them, you feel their pain.
Do not allow yourself to identify as a failure, but allow others to see your missteps. They will feel empowered to take action that may lead to failure, however it may lead them to make choices that lead them to success.
Be human. Be humble. Know that failure is a shared human experience.
